We may be 2 hours away from London, but there is plenty going on in Exeter to celebrate the Royal Wedding on Saturday 19th May… so who needs an invite?
Food
You can’t celebrate a wedding without food, and there are many cafés and restaurants offering tasty deals fit for a Prince and Princess.
Nothing shouts Royalty like scones, cakes and petite sandwiches. For any afternoon tea booked at Hotel Du Vin on the day, customers will receive a complimentary glass of prosecco to celebrate. To secure your feast, click here.
If you fancy something a little lighter, head to Tea on the Green where they’ll be offering blueberry jam so guests can make red, white and blue scones. Remember here in Devon, the clotted cream goes on first, then the jam!
Exeter definitely isn’t short of a cake deal. Between Friday 18th and Sunday 20th May, The Cosy Club will be serving a glass of prosecco accompanied with a mini Victoria sponge for £7.50. The bar and restaurant are extending their opening hours until 1am that weekend, giving guests the chance to prolong their celebrations. To avoid disappointment, book your table here.
Did someone say bottomless brunch? On the day of the Royal Wedding, Las Iguanas will be serving their brunch; a starter, main and unlimited prosecco (yes, unlimited!) for £24.99 per person. Book your table to raise a toast to Harry and Meghan here.
History
Exeter is a city enriched with history and culture, so what better occasion than a Royal Wedding to showcase this?
To celebrate the Royal Wedding on Saturday 19th May, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum will have a stall at the Devon County Show in the BBC Radio tent. Visitors to the stall we see examples of shoes made for Victorian and Edwardian brides along with examples of East Devon lace, plus they can have a go and date photographs of fashionable weddings of the last 150 years.
To give the city that wedding feeling, the Exeter Cathedral bell ringers will be attempting a full peal on the Jubilee Ten on the morning of the Royal Wedding. For more information click here.

Celebrations
This year’s Devon County Show falls on the weekend of the Royal Wedding, giving organisers the perfect opportunity to throw the biggest party in the country (probably)!
On Saturday 19th May the show’s new music and street food venue, The Watering Hole, will show live TV coverage from Windsor Castle where visitors are welcome to watch Harry and Meghan say “I do!”
At the event will be two wedding trees for visitors to write their wishes for the newlyweds; which will be sent to the Royal couple themselves. A young Devon tree will also be sent to the Royal Family to reflect the wedding day and the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy project.
Dust off your fancy wedding outfits, as there will be judging for the best headgear. For tickets to the Devon County Show click here.
Lord Mayor's wishes
“At this point, I would like to take this opportunity to inform council, that one of my first official acts. will be to formally write on behalf of the city of Exeter, to formally congratulate HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, on their forthcoming marriage this Saturday, with our best wishes and love, and issuing an open invitation for them to visit Exeter, at their earliest convenience. And I am sure that you will join me today in wishing them well for the future, working for and serving this great country.”
