Exeter's award winning museum has now reopened, and we couldn't wait to return. We are very lucky to have such a fantastic museum on our doorstep, it has 16 galleries of exhibitions to explore with free admission, and there is always something new to discover! You can easily spend a good few hours here wandering around the galleries, and it offers a sense of calm and sanctuary from the bustle of Exeter city centre.
We visited on a Saturday, to give the kids a break from a busy afternoon's Christmas shopping. There is now no need to book in advance, as the museum are encouraging more visitors to just come in for an impromptu visit. There is still a capacity limit in place however to allow for social distancing, so pre-booking may be reinstated during school holidays - just check RAMM's website in advance of your visit!
There is a one-way system in place, so the entrance is now located at the back of the museum (the Garden Entrance, just off Gandy Street to the side of the Exeter Phoenix). There is plenty of signage advising of social distancing measures, and the museum has plenty of space for visitors to spread out. Some of the smaller rooms have limits on the number of people allowed to enter at any one time. There is also hand sanitiser at the entrance and near the toilets, and the frequency of cleaning throughout RAMM has been increased, especially toilets, handrails, handles, lift buttons and key touchpoints.
The RAMM Cafe is also open with extended seating, and is the perfect pit-stop in the heart of the museum for coffee and cake!
Many of the exhibits now have digital information, accessible through your smartphone (bring your headphones as well for audio descriptions).
Before you leave, don't miss a visit to the RAMM Shop, the ideal place to pick up a unique Christmas gift with items based on the museum's collections, children's books, handmade jewellery and some beautiful Christmas decorations.
