Camera Obscura at The Custom House - Heritage Open Days Exhibition

About

During August 2020 following a commission from Exeter Canal & Quay Trust, internationally renowned photographer Brendan Barry made a series of analogue photographic prints with a giant room size camera and installed a camera obscura open to the public to view in the historic Custom House on Exeter Quay.

This is an opportunity to see Brendan’s work, discover the process of producing these images and to see a camera obscura in action. Camera obscuras are the predecessors to the photographic camera. Dating to antiquity, they consisted of small darkened rooms with light admitted through a single tiny hole that cast the inverted image of the outside scene on the opposite wall.

Come and see the images that Brendan has created using a range of different lenses, processes and techniques. There is also a chance to see a camera obscura in action and to watch a short video documenting the work in progress.

Brendan Barry will be at the Custom House on Saturday 19th September from 11am, to speak to visitors about this exciting project!
