We shall explore how and why so many churches were build within the walls of Exeter, and how they became divided up into parishes. We investigate how this affected everyday life of the inhabitants, and when or if they came to church, what they would experience. But even in the middle-ages, life was slowly changing and not everyone felt the church was moving in the right direction. We explore the pressures for change and when the subsequent reformation did take place how it affected the beliefs and pattern of worship in churches.
