About

Writer-in-Residence and creative writing lecturer Ellen Wiles will lead you on a walk from Custom House along the River Exe, taking breaks for fun and varied creative writing exercises that engage with the experience of nature in this unique riverscape. Suitable for children aged 6+. No previous creative writing experience necessary!

At booking, you will be asked to confirm how many adults and children you are booking for. Please book a ticket for each person attending.

Ellen Wiles is a novelist, anthropologist, curator, and Lecturer in Creative Writing at Exeter University. She is the author of three books: *The Invisible Crowd* (2017), a novel, and two non-fiction books about literary culture, *Saffron Shadows *(2015) and *Live Literature *(2021). Ellen has worked as a human rights barrister and as a musician, and her interests in literary activism, sound, and walking, have led her to develop a new project to create literary soundwalks in collaboration with scientists exploring matters of ecology and climate change. This workshop will be in-person at Exeter Custom House and on Exeter Quayside. We will be following Government guidance to ensure the event is Covid-19 secure.

We will be following social distancing guidance during this workshop, including a one metre plus rule, provision of hand sanitiser and a clearly marked one-way system. Exeter Custom House requires that face coverings are worn when inside the building.

Tickets are limited and available on a first come-first served basis.
