Discover Powderham Castle and experience 600 years of fascinating history in the magical family home of the Earl of Devon. This Heritage Open Day, experience exclusive tours, talks and exhibitions and explore our scenic grounds FOR FREE!

Home to Charlie and AJ, the Earl and Countess of Devon, Powderham Castle sits in a historic Deer Park at the edge of the Exe Estuary. Join us from Friday 11th - Sunday 20th September for an amazing FREE day out!*

Our knowledgeable and friendly guides welcome you to wander through the magnificent rooms; from Monday 14th - Thursday 17th September, join one of our exclusive, never-seen-before, socially distanced guided tours (groups are limited to 12 persons max. booking in advance is advised to avoid disappointment), and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays view the Castle at your leisure via our Open House sessions**. Get an up close look at interesting artefacts from our archives, immerse yourself in our extensive exhibition and expand your knowledge with fascinating talks on Powderham and the local community.

There's lots to do outside too: relax and explore in our beautiful gardens and grounds, follow our family friendly Nature Trail and magical Fairytale Trail, visit the Pet’s Corner and Play Area in the Walled Garden, and get a glimpse of the majestic Fallow Deer with stunning views over the Estuary.

Be sure to complete your visit with a delicious Devonshire Cream Tea or ice cream!

Road Directions

From the South Leave the A38 at the 'Wobbly Wheel Junction' and merge onto the A379 (signposted Dawlish). At the Marsh Barton Roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A379 then at the Matford Roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A379 and follow the Powderham Castle brown tourist signs. The Castle entrance is on the left-hand side as you are leaving the village of Kenton. From the North Leave the M5 at junction 30 and proceed towards Exeter joining the A379. At the Matford Roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A379 signposted to Dawlish then follow the Powderham Castle brown tourist signs. The Castle entrance is on the left-hand side as you are leaving the village of Kenton. Please note if you have a SATNAV it may direct you around the back of Powderham. Make sure you stay on the A379.
