Exeter Cathedral is delighted to be participating in Heritage Open Days 2020.

We’d love you to come and join us. Please see below a list of all events and times. Tickets will go live on Monday 24th August at 09.00 via the Cathedral website.

Roof Tours (90mins)

This fascinating tour takes you into the roof void high above the Nave, into the south tower, the Lead Room and the Ringing Chamber and then through the spaces in the north tower. Weather permitting, the tour is extended onto the North Tower to enjoy some of the best views of Exeter (and beyond).

Stones and Bones: The Cathedral Precinct Tours (90mins)

Delve into the history of the Green, explore the fascinating surrounds of the Cathedral as you have never imagined and trace its history from Roman times to present day. Discover Exeter’s cemetery (you may be surprised!) and find out about surrounding buildings' as well as the construction of both the Norman and the Gothic Cathedrals.

Please check the weather and bring waterproofs and an umbrella if necessary!

Cloister Tours (75-90mins)

Stroll through the tranquil, traumatic past of Exeter Cathedral’s Cloister Garden. This fascinating and yet often forgotten space has so many stories to tell and is a hidden gem in the heart of the city. Learn about the work of previous generations and how the buildings around the Cathedral have changed over time.

Secret Space Tours (30mins)

Come and explore a space inside the Cathedral that is normally off limits to visitors. Hear about the people who worked in this little known part of the building and discover our secret witch marks. The Dog Whipper, the Sluggard Prodder, the Bang Beggar and the Bell Toller; who were these individuals and what connection did they have to they have to our great Cathedral?

In line with UK government ruling all eligible visitors are required to wear a face covering when entering the Cathedral.

Hand sanitizing machines are in operation.

A one-way system is in place.

We have implemented enhanced cleaning regimes.

All chairs have been removed.

We have a limited number of people in the building at any one time.

Our café and public loos remain closed until further notice.

On-site Facilities: Refreshments available with Salcombe Dairy located on the West Front. Opening Times: Monday – Sunday 10.00 – 16.00.
