Exeter Festival Chorus - Choral Workshop Day

EXETER FESTIVAL CHORUS choral workshop is an open invitation for singers from far and wide to join in on a day’s exploration and cameo performance of Verdi’s Requiem.

This is your chance to sing Verdi’s extraordinary dramatic setting of the mass for the dead. Described as having ‘more fire and brimstone than compassion and consolation” the Requiem is virtually a religious opera, full of Italian passion and theatrical flamboyance. Led by Exeter Festival Chorus, under the inspirational guidance of Nigel Perrin, one of the UK’s foremost choral directors join us in simulating the spine-tingling fanfares of this masterwork.

This year the workshop will include an exciting line up of four young and up and coming soloists, whose operatic voices will soar over the chorus and will enhance our informal performance at the end of the day. Chris Why – tenor, Maria Danishvar-Brown – soprano, Nina Aluppi-Morton - mezzo-soprano and James Berry- bass.

Come and see these brilliant young people and spend a thrilling day of singing to start the year with a vocal lift!

Chris Why – tenor

Chris began his musical journey at the age of 9 when he became a chorister at Lincoln Cathedral; subsequently earning him a scholarship at the Minster School. After graduated from the University of Sheffield with a First-class honours degree in 2018, he also won the Mrs Stewart Blake Recital Prize for the best solo recital given by any undergraduate that year. Chris was appointed Tenor Lay Clerk at Manchester Cathedral in September 2018 and was awarded the Young Singer’s Bursary with Stile Antico. Chris regularly sings for the BBC Radio 4 Daily Service Singers and the Armonico Consort. He currently studies with Paul Nilon and has many exciting concerts and recitals planned for 2019.
