Exeter Respect Festival 2020

Exeter Respect Festival 2020

Exeter Respect Festival 2020 marks the 23rd anniversary of the first Respect Festival in Exeter, aimed at bringing communities together to celebrate their differences and commonalities.  This year the vision for 2020 is to celebrate “Environmental Justice”- providing a safe and sustainable environment for our diverse cultures.

The 2020 festival is planned to be bigger and better than ever. The doors open to the public at 11:30am to 7pm on Saturday and from 11am to 6:15pm on Sunday. With the rhythm of children and their parents, music, dance, storytelling ,workshops and talks, the festival really does have something for everyone.  The seven stages provide a kaleidoscope of performances, with Devon international stars “Wildwood Kin” playing on Saturday. Stalls provide global food, handmade crafts and fine clothing.  Attend the open mic tents, hosted by DIASI and Space, to discover new musicians and art workshops, including circus skills.  Exeter College, Exeter Music and Sound Academy, Exeter Community Initiatives, Extension Rebellion, Exeter University the Arabic and Islamic Institute, will be hosting a variety of activities, talks and performances.  The Pop-up Exeter City farm will be there, as will parents and children from Newtown Community Pre-school and Newtown Primary School, hosting a stage for young children. RAMM and many more organisations will provide a wide range of activities over the weekend for all to come together and stand hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder for our safe healthy planet. The Festival once more will be alcohol free; instead of alcohol, Oddfellows pub will bring their non-alcoholic cocktails for everyone to enjoy. Due to the economic climate that we live in, to sustain the festival there will be an entrance fee each day of £2, with under 16s free. Our generous sponsor in kind, Simon Almond, Managing Director of Devon Contract Waste stated “It’s so important to express acceptance in our city of all cultures, sexual orientations and nationalities and the Exeter Respect Festival unites all… we are very proud to support such an important event.’’
