History repeating: pattern design inspired by RAMM's collections (8 week course)

About

Use RAMM’s collections as source material and inspiration for developing a variety of pattern designs. Each week we will research a particular theme using reference points from art history, contemporary makers and artists to inspire new, unique designs. Designs can be interpreted in any medium and ideas and techniques will be shared within the group.

Week 1. Fashion, the body and form

Week 2. Lace, history, repetition, rhythm and symbolism

Week 3. Architecture: inside, outside, geometric design

Week 4. Animal print, butterflies, birds, snakes, feathers and fish as surface

Week 5. Costume

Week 6. Gods and goddesses

Week 7. Textiles and political messages

Week 8. Fine Art, exploring current exhibitions in the context of pattern and contemporary design

Please bring a sketchbook and pencils and a camera/phone.
