Poltimore House and Grounds - Heritage Open Days Opening

Poltimore House, Poltimore, Exeter, Devon, EX4 0AU
Poltimore House and Grounds - Heritage Open Days Opening

Despite, or even because of, its state of disrepair Poltimore House is an interesting place to visit, from the Tudor wing and the Rococo Saloon to the 1970s operating theatre. The grounds are what remains of the vast estate and feature many notable trees as well as some historic features and more modern additions.

During lockdown work has gone on in the grounds to reinvigorate the ponds and stream up near the orchard. These are fed by springs and are home to a wide range of wildlife. The blue bridge has also had an overhaul and is looking lovely.

There will be a one way system in the house and stewards will be on hand for information and to monitor social distancing. Visitor numbers in the house will be controlled and there may be a wait if many people turn up at the same time. We will require that masks are worn in the house and when queuing for refreshments in the Chapel. There will be a reduced menu of pre-wrapped refreshments to reduce handling of food. The grounds will be available to wander around. There are some all-weather paths but some areas are uneven and may not be suitable for wheelchairs/mobility vehicles.
