Join us for the premier of Summer writer-in-residence Sophie Dumont's commissioned poems created during her _Maritime-_themed residency. Sophie will be joined on stage by emerging writer participants who took part in her workshops during summer. They will be sharing their own writing, inspired by Sophie’s workshops.
Sophie Dumont is a poet, copywriter and ex-canoe coach living in Bristol. She is an alumna of Exeter University and her poetry has been published widely, including in The Rialto. Sophie won the Brian Dempsey Memorial Prize 2021, came 3rd in this year’s Magma Poetry Competition and has been shortlisted for the Bridport Prize twice.
Sophie’s poetry is anchored in themes of urban waterways as she explores her relationship to bodies of water and what the river can carry. Sophie completed a Creative Writing MA at Bath Spa and was awarded a poetry residency along Bristol Harbourside through Boat Poets. She's written three immersive productions for Riptide, a Leeds-based theatre company. The latest production, SONDER, is an app experience using GPS satellite navigation and a 360° binaural sound walk along the river Aire in Leeds. Her website is sophiedumont.co.uk. This event will be in-person at Exeter Custom House. We have increased capacity at Quay Words events, so you may be sitting next to someone who is not in your household. We are still taking precautions to ensure our audiences are protected from Covid 19. For this reason we ask that you please consider wearing a mask when not seated and moving around the building. We will be keeping windows open to ensure good ventilation in the building so you may want to bring an extra layer. Please do not attend Quay Words events if you have symptoms of Covid-19 or are feeling unwell. This event is going to be filmed for live broadcast on Crowdcast. You may appear on screen. Please only book if you are happy with this.
We can accommodate free tickets for carers or personal assistants if needed. Please email us on quaywords@literatureworks.org.uk after booking to let us know if you would like to book one of these tickets.
