There are Astounding Inventions everywhere you look at Exeter Cathedral. What stops the longest vaulted ceiling in Europe from falling down and how does the organ turn air into beautiful music?
Our library and archive hold records of intriguing inventions and theories dating back hundreds of years – some more successful than others.
We have some free tours available with our amazing stonemasons and organists, Librarian and Archivist who will reveal some of the mysteries of the Cathedral. Once you have marvelled at the stone work and felt the organ shake the building, the tours will end down in the Library.
Modern technology is also playing a big part in how we continue to care for and show the Cathedral and its collections and there will be an opportunity to see examples of this.
