Tours to explain the history and architecture of St Olaves Church followed by an organ recital then a talk about the St Olave. How did a Viking war-lord become a saint in Exeter?
We have on offer guided tours/commentary to explore the history and architecture of St Olave’s Church. There is also a separate talk on the story of St Olave. He is a Viking war-lord who finds himself in the service of an English King (Ethelred the Unready), before converting to Christianity and invading Norway to establish himself as king and force the country to accept Christianity. Unfortunately his leadership style does not win many friends and he is forced to flee. He is killed in battle trying to regain his throne. But his death does not end his story. You will also find out how he became a saint – indeed he still is the Patron Saint of Norway.
