934 reviewsThe impressive four-star Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel is an elegant Victorian building situated directly opposite Exeter Central train station and Rougemont Gardens in the heart of the city, making it perfect for leisure travellers or business guests. Within walking distance to the popular bars and restaurants of Exeter Quay and less than five minutes’ from both the city’s Castle and Cathedral, Mercure Exeter Rougemont makes a great hub for those exploring the local attractions too.
In addition, the picturesque beaches of Devon and Cornwall can also be found within easy reach by car, making the hotel perfectly located for trips to the coast.
The Mercure Rougemont Hotel has just completed an extensive renovation project. Tastefully upgraded from the original design, the hotel has refurbished 90 bedrooms, all of which incorporate elements of Exeter’s cultural heritage. The hotel’s corridors have also been refurbished as part of the latest renovation work, each featuring artwork of local Exeter landscapes.
Widely known for its famous textile industry, Exeter was once home to a series of ancient wool mills and soon became the centre for the woollen trade in the South West - boasting three purpose-built cloth markets at its peak. This formed the inspiration for the bedroom redesign with neutral colours and natural materials used to refresh the carpets, curtains and bed-linen – all complemented by the newly fitted, modern rain-showers and refreshed tiling in the en-suite bathrooms.
Guests of Mercure Exeter Rougemont can choose from a selection of comfortable bedrooms within the hotel, including twins, doubles and single rooms. For those looking for a little added luxury, Privilege King Rooms and Junior Suites also offer free unlimited Wi-Fi and Nespresso coffee machines.
Guests need not step outside of the hotel’s doors to soak up Exeter’s fascinating past either, with charming, original features still visible throughout the property. Built over 130 years ago on the site of a women’s prison, a beautiful stained-glass window has proudly featured in the lobby since being originally commissioned in 1879. The bar area also boasts a working fireplace dating back to the 16th Century.
For those looking to indulge, Drakes Restaurant and Bar offers a selection of delicious Brasserie-style food and drink options to whet the appetite – whilst Nelson’s Lounge is the ideal spot to unwind over a relaxing evening dinner or afternoon tea for two. An extensive wine list is also available to choose from, including a refined ‘Flavours from the Cellar’ collection, which is exclusive to Mercure Hotels.
The Mercure Exeter Rougemont is a popular choice for business meetings, with its largest room seating 250 people theatre style. With elegant appointments and luxury setting, The Hotel is also one of the city’s leading wedding and private event venues. The Hotel offers complimentary Wifi throughout the Hotel and has 26 car park spaces available at a charge of £12.50 (for 24 hours), on a first come, first serve basis.
