About

The Bookery is delighted to welcome Amelia Blackwell for an evening of literary mystery and historic intrigue as she discusses her new novel, The Haunting of a Bront with Devon crime writerStephanie Austin, promising a lively evening of murder mystery, literary history and the enduring fascination of the Bronts.

The Haunting of a Bront is the new instalment in Amelia Blackwells much-loved Miss Darcy Investigates cosy crime timeslip series. Transported forty years into the future, Georgiana Darcy finds herself in 1843 at Thorp Green Hall, an ominous Victorian manor where Branwell and Anne Bront are employed as tutor and governess. Expecting murder but encountering something far stranger, Georgiana becomes entangled in a web of passion, deception and unsettling events, inspired by Anne Bronts own cryptic diary entries. Blending humour, romance and mystery, the novel echoes the creeping atmosphere of The Turn of the Screw and the emotional turbulence of Wuthering Heights.

Amelia Blackwell holds a masters degree in Creative Writing and has a deep love of the works of Jane Austen. Although the Boleyns appear in her family tree, its through marriage, not blood, which is probably just as well. She lives in Cornwall with her family and Colin the corn snake.
Stephanie Austin is the author of nine novels including Dead in Devon, The Dartmoor Murders and her most recent book How to Get Murdered in Devon. Stephanie has enjoyed a varied career as an artist and antiques trader, previously worked with the Devon Schools Library Service, and is actively involved in amateur theatre as both director and actor.

The evening forms part of The Bookerys ongoing programme of author talks and cultural events, and reflects the bookshops proud support for theNational Year of Reading, bringing leading thinkers and writers into conversation with the community on the most pressing issues of our time.
The evening will include an audience Q&A and book signing.

Ticketholders will receive 15% off purchases of The Haunting of a Bront on the night.
