Carols in the Cathedral

About

This year’s Carols in the Cathedral are extra-special nights of festive music as Exeter Philharmonic Choir continues to sing out to celebrate its 180th anniversary. These seasonal performances, staged over two consecutive nights, extol all that’s special about Yuletide. The concerts will include a rich selection of Christmas music, from the traditional carols we all know and love to contemporary compositions.

Trumpeters Cameron Todd and Ross Brown will bring additional fanfare to the occasion, while baritone Tristan Hambleton brings warmth and character to the evening. The Choir and soloists are conducted by Howard Ionascu and accompanied by Stephen Tanner on the Cathedral's majestic organ.

This year’s compere is Jenny Lloyd, who sang with Exeter Philharmonic Choir for over 30 years and did a huge amount to build the Choir over those decades. Jenny will guide the audience on a joyful musical journey and introduce the Choir’s chosen charity, Christians Against Poverty (CAP), which will benefit from donations received in the retiring collection.

CAP is celebrating its own anniversary: 30 years of supporting and advocating for people experiencing debt and poverty. Over three decades, friendly, local churches have helped tens of thousands of people find a way out of poverty, rediscovering joy, hope and opportunities.

In the season of giving and goodwill, Exeter Philharmonic Choir is delighted to support this worthwhile cause.

Of course, no carol concert is complete without a degree of audience participation. Join in and help fill the Cathedral to its rafters with the joyful sound of festive carols.
