By Willy Russell
Directed by John Nelson
A witty, moving, and life-affirming play, Educating Rita is one of the most beloved British dramas of modern theatre.
Set in a university office, the story follows Rita, a spirited and outspoken working-class hairdresser hungry for change, and Frank, a disillusioned academic who has lost his passion for teachingand perhaps for life itself.
What begins as a straightforward Open University tutoring relationship soon develops into something far deeper. As Ritas confidence grows and her worldview expands, Frank is forced to confront his own limitations, regrets, and fading sense of purpose.
Both humorous and deeply poignant, Educating Rita explores themes of class, education, identity, and transformationasking what it really means to grow, to change, and to find your place in the world.
Famously adapted for film starring Michael Caine and Julie Walters (both receiving Academy Award nominations), this timeless story continues to resonate with audiences today.
