Moor Tutoring is getting very excited for the month of August to arrive when we will start our Hands-on Adventures in Art, Design and Engineering clubs across West Devon for 5 - 11 year olds.

What will my child do?

At our venues inMoretonhampstead, Bridestowe, Yelverton, Bovey Tracey and Okehampton, your child will have a fabulous 3 hours combining elements of art, design and engineering to form different 3D sculptures using various shapes and natural wood. The children will also be learning and developing the skills of design, cutting, painting, colour mixing, how to make their sculpture balance from an engineering point of view but also how it looks and supporting each other through the process.

InTavistock, our focus will be slightly different as we are linking our activities to Tavistock Library Summer Reading Challenge Theme 'Transport'. During the three hours at Tavistock library we will be creating 3d models of different forms of transport. We will also explore structures related to transport, such as forming bridges for cars and trains.

STEM CHALLENGE

In all venues, there will also be an opportunity for children to work in pairs to try and succeed in a fun and practical Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) challenge.

Building with Meccano and Kinnex

In addition to the above activities, children will also have the time to use their creativity to design and paint a stone and to have a go at using their engineering skills to build different 3d objects using Meccano and Kinnex. Age appropriate construction toys will be provided so there will be something for all to do.

Will my child be bringing something home?

At the end of the session, your child will be able to come home with at least 1 sculpture or 1 mode of transport and 1 painted rock and a lot of conversation about everything that they have taken part in during the 3 hours.

Tap and Pay

If your child has managed to put a meccano model together and would like to keep it, then there will be the opportunity to purchase the kit from me through 'Tap and Pay' via your card/mobile phone or cash.

Our overall aim, is to have a relaxed, fun, innovative and creative session where the children are buzzing with enthusiasm at the end.

Timings

There will be a morning and afternoon sessionat all venues with the exception of Tavistock Library where there will be one session.

Each session will last 3 hours.

Please arrive punctually at the beginning and end of the session.

Will I be staying with my child during the session?

While it is not essential for parents/carers to stay with their child during the session, it may be deemed necessary due to a child having a significant medical need and/or Special Education Need where they receive 1:1 support at school. If this is the case, we will communicate with individual parents in advance of the session and allow you to stay to support your child.
