About

Until 1928, a vast swathe of Asia was bound together under a single imperial banner, the Indian Empire. But in the space of just fifty years, five partitions tore the Empire apart, carving out new nations, and leaving behind a legacy of war, exile and division. Historian and debut author Sam Dalrymple joins us to map out the whole story of how the Indian Empire was unmade. From portraits of key political players to accounts of those swept up in the resulting wars and mass migrations, his book Shattered Lands reveals the dramatic and untold story how a single, sprawling dominion became twelve modern nations.
