Baptists have worshipped in Exeter since the times when they were persecuted for doing so. The site of our present church on South Street was given to us in the eighteenth century and the first service held here in January 1725. That church was eventually found to be unsafe, so it was replaced by our present building, which was opened in 1823 and later enlarged. Our exhibition within our current worship space will show how the church has developed and changed over the years, extending its ministry within and around Exeter. This includes the development of halls across the road in Palace Gate, their bombing and replacement, and then the purchase of Kennaways' wine warehouse on a site adjoining the existing church. This was turned into a community centre, now active as the Palace Gate Centre and housing meetings of many local organisations.
Also on display will be our many banners, which have enhanced the visual aspect of our worship for the past three decades.
