Meet donkey heroes all around the world!
Get set to explore the globe in the comfort of our Sidmouth sanctuary this summer! Our brand new Donkey Passport Trail transports you to faraway and exotic countries, including Peru, Mexico and Kenya. You’ll also stay close to home, discovering how donkeys have an impact here in the UK and Ireland.
Running from 2 June to 29 September, the trail puts the spotlight on donkeys that live across nine countries in total.
In each country, donkeys play an important role – whether it’s supporting communities, working in industry, or providing companionship to people. It’s your job to find out which role donkeys play in these countries by finding each board located around the sanctuary!
Whether it's the sun-soaked shores of Italy or the imposing mountains of Afghanistan, participants of our summer trail will be able to collect stamps from each country in their passports as they travel around the sanctuary to learn how international communities benefit from their long-eared friends.
Each board will be bursting with information on how donkeys hold international importance, and how The Donkey Sanctuary supports them and their owners.
At the end of the trail, be sure to visit The Shed to claim your prize!
Plus with daily talks, scenic walks, engaging exhibits, our award-winning restaurant and, of course, hundreds of adorable donkeys to meet, there’s so much to explore with your own herd, whatever the weather.
Take sanctuary in our Taste of the West award-winning restaurant, The Kitchen, and enjoy fresh, local, seasonal produce while soaking in the unparalleled coast and country views. Breakfasts, lunches and tempting afternoon treats are dished up daily, with every penny of profit helping donkeys and mules around the world.
Before heading home, browse our Gift Shop at leisure in the knowledge that every purchase goes towards helping donkeys in need. Packed with unique donkey-design items and souvenirs, you will find something for everyone.
Make the day your own, but above all else, fall in love with our herds of donkeys.
From humble beginnings as a UK rescue mission 50 years ago, The Donkey Sanctuary has grown into one of the world’s largest equine welfare charities.
General admission and parking at the sanctuary are FREE (donations welcome). Dogs on leads are welcome.
