Fancy showing off your crafty crochet skills in support of this summer's Women's Rugby World Cup 2025?
As the countdown to this summer's historic tournament continues, crafters from across the city are being invited to create rugby-themed crochet pieces for a yarn exhibition at Exeter’s Historic Guildhall and RAMM, on Friday 4th August.
Inspired by the Red Roses' love of crochet as a team-bonding activity, organisers are calling on the nation to take part in a Yarn Art Installation project in a location close to them. The project is designed to inspire the next generation of female players and deliver a legacy for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. It’s a great way for the nation to come together, painting the country red and white to show their support for the Red Roses this summer!
Here in Exeter, organisers are looking for rugby-themed pieces including red roses to decorate the Historic Guildhall and ‘granny squares’ to be made into a knitted scarf for RAMM’s most famous resident, Gerald the Giraffe.
The finished pieces can be dropped off at Wonford Sports Centre, Exeter's Historic Guildhall and RAMM by Friday 25 July.
For those who would like to crochet or knit with others, there will also be a drop-in yarn station available at RAMM during its opening times. Those taking part will be supplied with the patterns but will need to supply their own hooks or needles.
Whether it’s a Red Rose, bunting, or a simple square, crocheted or knitted, all creations are welcome and here's some helpful information to get you started.
