There’s a beautiful splash of colour and a poignant reminder of the past at the heart of Exeter this November, as hundreds of handmade knitted poppies adorn the city's historic Guildhall for Remembrance.

Originally created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, the poppies have a special connection with Exeter. They were previously displayed inside Exeter Cathedral in 2017, and have now found a new home in one of the city's most historic buildings.

A special tribute in the heart of Exeter

The striking display brings together creativity, community spirit and an important message of remembrance, providing a fitting tribute to those who have served and sacrificed in conflicts past and present.

Each handmade poppy represents a moment of care and consideration, with hundreds coming together to create a beautiful collective tribute.

The poppies can be seen inside Exeter's Historic Guildhall, right in the heart of the city centre, and will remain on display until 12 November 2026.

Remembering together this Remembrance Sunday

Visitors to Exeter can also join the city in remembering those who lost their lives in conflicts at the annual Remembrance Sunday Service on Sunday 8 November 2026.

Taking place at the City War Memorial in Northernhay Gardens, the service begins at 10.30am, with military contingents arriving from 10am. The traditional two-minute silence will take place at 11am, followed by the laying of wreaths.

Everyone is welcome to attend, making this an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to come together and pay their respects.

A Devon County Remembrance Service will also take place at Exeter Cathedral at 4pm.
