Exeter is a shopper's paradise, with an eclectic mix of shops within easy walking distance of each other. Start with the big names in Princesshay and the High Street, with department stores including John Lewis, Debenhams and House of Fraser.
Head to Exeter's West Quarter for independents in fashion, music, arts and crafts. Here you will find interesting shops tucked away in arcades, intespersed with some top quality eateries when you get tired of shopping. The West Quarter is close to the river, and it's well worth continuing on to Exeter Quayside, where you'll find crafts, gifts and antiques located in historic bonded warehouses.
Just off Exeter's main High Street is the cobbled Gandy Street, home to more independents, selling beautiful hand-crafted goods from jewellery to chocolate.
Visit the Exeter Farmers Market every Thursday to pick up local, Devon food and drink direct from the producers. Visit Exeter in November and December to take advantage of the Christmas street markets in Castle Street and South Street, or head to the Cathedral Quarter for the annual Christmas Market on Cathedral Green.
