Discover centuries of local history at Powderham, home to the Courtenay family, who this year celebrate 700 years of devoted stewardship.
Every visit offers something new. Centuries of history reside within the castle walls, every details holds a hidden story waiting to be discovered. Explore at your own pace or follow along with a guided tour. Dogs are most welcome to accompany you for free as you roam the grounds and castle.
Beyond the Castle, the estate unfolds into vast, living landscapes. Among them is the Secret Garden, home to a variety of furry and feathered friends. Visitors can enjoy hands-on activities like pony grooming and alpaca walking.
The Rose Terrace offers sweeping views across the ancient deer park, where hundreds of fallow deer roam.
Venture further to discover the picturesque Belvedere Tower, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, and the American Garden, a natural gallery of specimen trees and seasonal blooms.
You'll find refreshments available on site, and homemade picnics are welcome as you relax and take in the views.
Powderham is also a vibrant events venue, with a growing calendar of exciting events and community days throughout the year.
Discover the history on your doorstep and visit Powderham - the home of Devon, a place for every occasion, each season.
