Spot rare migratory birds on the River Exe

About

A haven for birdwatchers or just nature lovers, spend a day investigating the delights of the River Exe. Just a short walk or cycle from Exeter city centre, the Exe Estuary nature reserve is two areas of coastal grazing marsh on opposite sides of the river. One side of the estuary is Exminster Marshes and the other Bowling Green Marsh. Both are owned and managed by the RSPB.

In spring, you can see lapwings and redshanks and listen for rare Cetti's warblers. In winter, during floods or around high tide, there are thousands of waterbirds to look out for and you may also be lucky to spot something rare during the migratory season.

A great place for photographers as the estuary opens to the sea, the RSPB reserves are something special for nature lovers and those who like to just chill.  Seasonal boat trips with experienced guides are also available from Topsham where there are also great places to eat and drink.
