Saint-Sans' opera 'Samson et Dalila' remains one of the most beloved operas in the French repertoire thanks to its glorious orchestration, dramatic storytelling and some of the most beautiful melodies ever written for the operatic stage. From the sensual allure of Dalila's famous aria "Mon cur s'ouvre ta voix" to the spectacular excitement of the Bacchanale, the opera combines passion, power and musical brilliance, making it a favourite with audiences worldwide.
Exeter Opera Group's semi-staged production offers the perfect opportunity to experience this masterpiece up close, brought to life by a cast of wonderful soloists. Featuring outstanding local and regional talent, the production showcases voices of remarkable quality and dramatic presence. Through their expressive performances, the soloists capture the emotional intensity of Saint-Sans' music, creating an engaging and memorable evening of opera that demonstrates the artistic strength and ambition of Exeter Opera Group.
The opera is performed in French, with a piano accompaniment, as well as narration in English in between.
