About

This year, the Devonshire Association is Celebrating Devons World-Class Heritage in a project supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This includes a series of free Discovery Days that aim to raise awareness of our countys UNESCO designated natural and cultural heritage and the Devonshire Associations role in promoting that heritage over the past 163 years.

Our Exeter Discovery Day will begin with an illustrated talk by Simon Timms, President of the Devonshire Association, on Exeter as a UNESCO City of Literature . Bridget Gillard, the DAs Executive Secretary, will then interview the author and buildings historian Peter Beacham about his distinguished career writing about the historic environment and special character of Devon and the West Country. Their conversation will include discussion of Down the Deep Lanes , his highly popular collaboration with the Devon documentary photographer, the late James Ravilious. The afternoon will conclude with tea and cake.
