About

The Bookery is excited to welcome Sunday Times bestselling author Elly Griffiths to Crediton Library for a special evening celebrating the publication of her festive new mystery, The Case of the Christmas Card, and the paperback release of The Killing Time, the latest instalment in her acclaimed Ali Dawson series.

In this solo presentation, Elly will talk about her crime writing and the inspiration behind her popular novels featuring time-travelling detective Ali Dawson, one of the most original new voices in contemporary crime fiction.

First to feature will be The Case of the Christmas Card, a delightful festive murder mystery novella in which Ali Dawson receives an unexpected visitor just days before Christmas when none other than Charles Dickens appears on her doorstep. While trying to discover how the great novelist has travelled through time, Ali finds herself investigating the mystery of newly discovered paintings by a murdered artist and the disappearance of a young woman. As Christmas approaches, Ali and Dickens race to solve two mysteries before the festive season is upon them.
Elly will also discuss The Killing Time, longlisted for the Theakstons Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year Award 2026. In this thrilling second Ali Dawson mystery, the detective's cold case unit remains grounded after a disastrous time-travel mission leaves a colleague stranded in Victorian London. Investigating the apparent suicide of a young man, Ali uncovers links to a charismatic psychic medium who claims to communicate with the dead. When a seemingly simple journey into the past goes badly wrong, she once again finds herself in Victorian London, where she encounters her missing colleague, confronts old enemies and faces the dangerous consequences of tampering with time itself.

'Warm and engaging characters and a wildly brilliant story wittily told; I loved this book.' - Ann Cleeves
'Truly wonderful, wildly atmospheric.' - Marian Keyes
'A new book by Elly Griffiths is always a cause of delight, and this series promises to broaden our horizons. Ali Dawson will capture readers' hearts the way Ruth Galloway did.' - Mick Herron

Elly Griffiths is a multi-award-winning author and No.1 Sunday Times bestseller. Her novels include the internationally bestselling Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries, the Brighton Mysteries and the Detective Harbinder Kaur series. More than six million copies of her books have been sold worldwide, and she has made over fifty appearances in the Sunday Times Top Ten. Earlier this year Elly won 'Crime Novel of the Year' at the Harrogate Crime Festival with The Frozen People, the first book in her Ali Dawson series. Her many other accolades include the Bookseller Association Author of the Year 2024, the CWA Dagger in the Library, the Edgar Award and, most recently, the Theakston Old Peculiar Outstanding Contribution Award, recognising her remarkable contribution to crime writing

Following the event, Elly will be available to meet audience members and sign copies of her books.
