About

Henrik Persson & Caroline Ritchie - viola da gamba Lynda Sayce - theorbo James Akers - baroque guitar

Fantasias, dances, and divisions by Christopher Simpson, John Jenkins, William Young,
Benjamin Hely, and others, played on two spectacular and historically important English
Viols. This is a rare opportunity to hear two original English viols by John Pitts (1675) and
Edward Lewis (1703) played together live, exploring some of the repertoire that their
original owners might have played. The concert features original divisions and sonatas as
well as our own arrangement of popular melodies and ground basses from the time.
landscape and the flourishing of the unusual combination of three violins and continuo for
court ensembles. His masterful Suite in C led to a small flourishing of works for the same
forces, by Mattes, Finger, and (undoubtedly the crowning achievement of the genre)
Purcell.
