The Old Document Reading Group

Are you struggling to read old handwriting, but don't have anyone to turn to for help? Have you become rusty with your palaeographical skills? Do you enjoy word puzzles and deciphering text? Would you like to contribute to improving cataloguing and access to historical materials in the Cathedral Archives?
On the third Thursday of every month, The Old Document Reading Group will work to decipher a 16th-20th century old English document from the Cathedral Archives to collectively prepare a transcription of the text. At the end of each session you will then have the chance to explore other texts, such as those in latin or Old English, as well as ask the group for help with a document you have been working on from elsewhere.
Please note this reading group is not a formal training course, although you will receive help and guidance on how to read handwriting from different eras and in different styles.
