About

Powderham Will Be Buzzing This Easter!

Step into a world of magical mini‑beasts with the brand new Augmented Reality, Pollination Trail at Powderham Castle, an Easter adventure like no other!

Join us from the 3rd April throughout Easter and up until 23rd May to explore the castle grounds in a whole new way. This isn't just a walk… it's a high‑tech treasure hunt packed with butterflies, bees, moths, bats and all the tiny heroes that keep our planet thriving. Created by Octopus Immersive, The Road to Happiness Ltd, and Bristol artist Jamel, this trail blends nature, art and cutting‑edge AR into one fun, memorable day out.

Armed with just your phone or tablet, you can follow a special map to uncover fascinating facts, hidden secrets and incredible digital creatures that appear before your eyes. Watch a butterfly land on your hand, see a swarm of bees burst from a hive, or peek into the world exactly as a bug sees it. It's fun, surprising, and sneakily educational, the perfect combo for curious kids and nature‑loving grown‑ups.

Designed for families with children aged 4 and up, the trail takes anything from 20 minutes for speedy walkers to 60 minutes if you want to take in all the facts and The Pollination Trail is included in your admission ticket to Powderham. Simply download the app before you arrive or on arrival and get ready to collect stamps in your digital Bug Passport as you explore eight brilliant interactive installations.

Highlights include:
The Swarming Hive – open the hive, scan the marker and watch bees take flight
Watch Your Drawers – pull open a chest of drawers and release a flurry of moths
How Bugs See – step into the kaleidoscopic world of insect vision

This is more than just a great day out, this is a chance to have fun while learning about the incredible world of insects and their vital role in biodiversity and probably the only experience in the region that mixing Augmented Reality with a meaningful message about climate and nature and in a stunning historic setting.
