Discover how overlooked histories become compelling fiction in this fascinating free author talk with Diane Hinds, author of Conquerabia: The Struggle for Identity. Perfect for interested readers, aspiring or current writers and anyone interested in hidden histories.
How do you write a novel about a history that almost nobody has been taught?
Join author Diane Hinds for an engaging evening exploring the research and writing behind her debut historical novel, Conquerabia: The Struggle for Identity. Drawing on years of research, Diane explores the process of uncovering Trinidad's little-known colonial history and weaving it into a powerful historical novel. Along the way she'll discuss research, historical accuracy, storytelling, and the challenges of bringing forgotten voices to life on the page.
The talk will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by an opportunity for questions from the audience. Copies of Conquerabia will be available to purchase and have signed after the event.
About Diane
Diane Hinds is the author of Conquerabia: The Struggle for Identity , a historical novel tracing Trinidad's history from Christopher Columbus's arrival in 1498 through Spanish colonial rule, the island's cession to Britain in 1797, and the governorship of Thomas Picton. Inspired by time spent living in Trinidad, the novel explores a period of Caribbean history that is rarely taught in Britain.
Alongside her fiction, Diane has spent more than thirty years working as a public relations director across music, publishing and broadcasting. She has presented talks at libraries and Business & Intellectual Property Centres across the UK and the United States, including Wokingham, Essex, Coventry, Cardiff, Wirral, Barking & Dagenham, Kensington & Chelsea, and Southern Nevada.
She has also appeared on BBC Radio London and been featured in Welsh Country and blacknews.uk
