Spooky Season is almost upon us, and Exeter Phoenix is celebrating this most frightening time of year with a scarily good programme of theatre, films and workshops for the whole family!
Throughout October Half Term, you can meet friendly aliens, watch your favourite cat videos up on the big screen and create haunting skeleton portraits.
Family theatre
Airport Alien - 2pm, Monday 27th October (ages 5+)

Rhubarb Theatre presents Airport Alien, a brand-new family show full of puppetry, physical theatre, dance, song, and lots of laughter. When ArVi the Alien arrives on Earth in the summer of 1974 in search of happiness, she must seek help to navigate a world very different to her own. This fun filled fantasy is ideal for ages 5 - 11 but suitable for all the family.

Cat Video Fest 2025 - 24th to 27th October (all ages)
Tickets: £9 | £7 Studio 74 members | £5 students & under 25s
The world’s #1 cat video festival returns to Exeter Phoenix’s cinema, Studio 74, after sell-out screenings earlier this year. Enjoy a compilation of the latest and best cat videos with Cat Video Fest 2025, purr-fect for the whole family! A portion of the ticket proceeds from this show will go directly to local charity, Hector’s House Cat Rescue.
Courses and workshops
Your Spooky Face/My Spooky Face - 2pm to 4:30pm, Tuesday 28th October
Tickets: £15 per adult or £20 per pair (£10 per additional person)
Work in pairs with a family member or friend and use fun techniques to create hauntingly good portraits of each other. Workshop attendees also receive 10% off all food and hot drinks at the Exeter Phoenix Café Bar.
Sketch A Skeleton - 2pm to 4:30pm, Thursday 30th October (ages 6+)
Tickets: £15 per adult or £20 per pair (£10 per additional person)
Get up close to a replica skeleton and draw the bare bones of the human body to create frighteningly good portraits of our resident Skelly! Whether you’re a beginner or experienced artist, you’ll enjoy exploring how to bring skeletal structures to life with simple tips and guided instruction.
Create a Spooky Zine - 10:30am to 1pm, Friday 31st October (ages 8+)
Tickets: £15 per adult or £20 per pair (£10 per additional person)
Join us for a hauntingly fun spooky zine making workshop and craft eerie, atmospheric mini magazines perfect for Halloween or any other ghostly occasion. Under guided instruction, you’ll learn how to design creepy illustrations, write some chilling text, and assemble your own spooky zine using simple, accessible materials.
