Discover Arty Boat, a friendly independent creative studio in Exmouth and home of the Signature Wooden Duck Painting Experience™.
Known as ‘The Duck Place in Devon’, Arty Boat offers relaxed, hosted painting sessions where visitors can choose from our much-loved wooden ducks, pottery and other wooden items and create something completely unique. Our sessions are designed for beginners as well as keen creatives, so no artistic experience is needed.
We provide the materials, aprons and guidance, along with a drink and biscuits, and guests have up to three hours to enjoy painting at their own pace. Finished pieces are protected with varnish and can be taken home the same day - no return trip needed.
Arty Boat is a fun indoor activity for families, couples, friends, adults, visitors to Exmouth and groups looking for something a little different to do in Devon. We recommend our standard painting sessions for ages 5+. Everyone attending books a place and chooses an item to paint. Alongside our regular painting sessions, we also host special creative workshops and group experiences throughout the year.
Arty Boat has been featured on BBC Radio Devon and the GWR Great Escapes podcast, has welcomed celebrity visitors including Amanda Holden, and was named Art Studio of the Year in the 2026 Southwest Awards. Located on Exeter Road in Exmouth, we are within easy reach of the town centre and make a great creative addition to a day out on the beautiful East Devon coast. Advance booking is recommended via our website.
Afternoon Tea & Paint
For an extra-special visit, Arty Boat also offers an Afternoon Tea & Paint experience, combining a relaxed three-hour creative session with a traditional afternoon tea. Enjoy sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, sweet treats and a hot or cold drink while painting your chosen piece. It’s a lovely option for birthdays, celebrations, couples, friends and groups looking for something a little different to do in Exmouth. Vegetarian options are available, with gluten-free and vegan options available for a small supplement.
