The Bookery is delighted to welcomeC.B. Everett for the launch of his gripping new thriller The Final Chapter , an ingenious mystery about writing, friendship and the stories we tell ourselves. Everett will be in conversation withLynne Carroll, local writer and former criminal justice specialist, for an evening of sharp plotting, dark secrets and deep literary intrigue.
Ten years ago, celebrated novelist Jonathan Durward vanishedalong with his much anticipated final novel. Now, that missing manuscript has resurfaced, but instead of the literary fiction the world expected, it is an espionage thriller filled with suspiciously familiar clues. As Everett is tasked with annotating the text, he begins to suspect the novel isnt fiction at all, but a coded message about Durwards disappearance. Twist by twist, Everettand the readerare drawn into a mystery where identity, friendship and truth become dangerously tangled.

C.B. Everett is the pen name of Martyn Waites, acclaimed author of the Joe Donovan series, The Old Religion, and The White Room. His accolades include the Grand Prix Roman tranger for Born Under Punches, and he has written the official sequel to Susan Hills The Woman in Black. His work has been shortlisted for major British and French crime awards, and he has also enjoyed international success writing as Tania Carver. He is a local author living in Exeter, and we are thrilled to welcome him to Crediton for this special launch event.
Lynne Carrollis a Crediton based writer whose career has spanned frontline policing, detective work and specialist training in serious crime. After retiring, Lynne studied creative writing in Australia, winning multiple short story competitions and contributing to magazines. A former leader of the Crediton Creative Writers Group, she is currently working on a series of historical crime novels set in 1840s frontier New South Wales. Lynne is also well known locally for her engaging talks on Australian convict labour history.
C.B. Everett will speak about the inspirations behind The Final Chapter , read from the book, and take audience questions. There will be time afterwards to meet the author and have books signed.
