The Bookery, in partnership with Sustainable Crediton is delighted to welcome awardwinning climate journalist David Shukman for a timely and urgent evening of conversation withProfessor Richard Brazier, marking the publication of Davids latest book, The Response: A Story of Fire and Flood in Britains New World of Extremes . Bringing together one of the UKs most trusted voices on climate change with a leading expert in environmental resilience, the event will explore how Britain is already living with the realities of a rapidly changing climate and how we might respond more effectively.
Drawing on decades spent reporting from the frontlines of environmental change, The Response is a blistering and deeply human account of how Britain has moved onto the frontline of the climate emergency. From wildfires threatening homes to floods overwhelming communities, David Shukman reveals how extreme weather events once thought inconceivable are now unfolding on our doorstep and how lives have already been lost that could have been saved. Gripping and rigorously researched, the book confronts the new extremes facing our bodies, buildings and landscapes, and issues an urgent rallying cry about what we can still do, if we are prepared to act.
