Traction Project Space: Being, in touch

Window exhibition - Monday 9th June - Sunday 6th July (24/7)
Gathering - Thursday 12th June, 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Erika Cann, Millie Laing-Tate and Laura Robertson meld their art practices together through a process-led and playful collaboration. In the window of Traction Project Space, the trio will develop their material-driven approach to making that emerges through ongoing conversations about movement, time, the porosity of boundaries and the space in-between. Both within their studios and outside in changing landscapes, the artists explore our bodily relationship with the local geological environment. Interactions within the ecosystem correspond to bodies and modes of making. Sculptural, photographic and stitched materials squish, fold and overlap through skin to skin encounters. New synergies form each time they meet…

From Exeter Phoenix: ShrineShare
Monday 9th - Sunday 15th June, 11:00am - 4:30pm

ShrineShare brings together sixteen artists from Malaysia, Thailand, the UK, and the US to share their visions of sacred shrines—be they ancient, personal, or imagined – in an off-site Exeter Phoenix exhibition, presented at our partner venue Positive Light Projects. It presents the 16 participating artist's 'shrines' in a folio of hand printed, rubber-stamp prints, variously inspired by family and culture, found or genealogical; home and travel, in spirit or geographical; seeking and hope, in nature or in the digital realm. Each hand-printed shrine image is framed by an ASCII-art design, which uses the aesthetic of the early internet, recalling its promise of unexpected, sincere, peer-to-peer connection. They are presented alongside an opportunity for visitors to create their own shrine images, prompted by the universal themes of the project.

The exhibition is supported by The British Council Connections Through Culture grant, and an Arts Council England Project Grant.
