Pleasure Dome Theatre, originally in partnership with the National Trust, present Rosalie: a new one-woman play inspired by Rosalie Chichester 1865-1949: scientist, photographer, explorer, collector and unapologetic eccentric, exploring the pressures of female identity and familial responsibility in Victorian England. Rosalie was inspired by Rosalie Chichester (1865-1949) who lived all her life at Arlington Court near Barnstaple - for her, an early stimulating wildlife paradise under the guidance and easy conversation of her father, but increasingly an albatross after she had inherited the property aged 21. Her middle and later years were largely spent in the company of Chrissie, a congenially cultured domestic companion with whom Rosalies insatiable appetite for experience and knowledge resulted in their shared extensive foreign travel.
