Englands monasteries were at the cutting-edge of medieval music-making. They perfected the haunting melody of plainchant and pioneered the rich and colourful performance of polyphony. On the eve of the Reformation, the most ambitious musicians singers, organists and composers gravitated to the great, old abbey churches.
Drawing on the latest research into this early music - which today is rarely heard live - Exeter University Chapel Choir present a programme which recreates the sound that filled these ancient buildings before Henry VIIIs Dissolution of the Monasteries.
