Following the international success of the Academy Award-winning film, Salterton Drama Club is proud to present Samuel D. Hunter's powerful and deeply moving play, The Whale.
Charlie, a reclusive online writing tutor, has withdrawn from the world. Living alone and struggling with severe obesity, he spends his days behind a screen, burdened by regret, grief, and the choices of his past.
Knowing his health is failing, Charlie makes one final attempt to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter, Ellie. What follows is a raw, honest and unexpectedly uplifting exploration of redemption, forgiveness, and the human need for connection.
Funny, heartbreaking and profoundly human, The Whale has captivated audiences around the world. Long before it became an acclaimed film, it was recognised as one of the most important contemporary plays of its generation.
This intimate and emotionally charged production marks a first for the Salterton Playhouse as we bring this modern theatrical masterpiece to our stage.
Please note: The Whale contains strong language, adult content and themes that some audience members may find upsetting. Recommended for ages 16 and over.
