3. Rougemont Gardens
Tucked away behind Exeter's Central Library, Rougemont Gardens is one of the city's best-kept secrets. Sheltered by the ancient Roman city wall, these peaceful Grade II listed gardens are perfect for a quiet summer picnic surrounded by history and colourful planting.
4. Northernhay Gardens
The oldest public space in England, Northernhay Gardens were originally laid out as a pleasure walk in 1612, and today incorporate many historic features including the Roman city wall and historic monuments. This oasis in the city centre is ideal for picnics and for kids to run around and let off steam!

5. University of Exeter
Just a short walk from the city centre, the University of Exeter's Streatham campus is one of the most beautiful in the country, with award winning landscaped gardens incorporating fascinating sculpture pieces and inspired architecture. With 300 acres of grounds, you're sure to find a peaceful picnic spot with stunning views across the city to the rolling hills beyond.
6. Topsham
Combine a stroll around the charming estuary town of Topsham with a relaxing picnic on the Goat Walk. Watch boats bob along the River Exe, enjoy the fresh air and take in beautiful waterside views from one of the benches or grassy spots.
7. Darts Farm
This award winning farm shop just outside Topsham has a large outdoor area to enjoy a picnic with local produce from the food hall, which is filled with hundreds of hand-picked local and artisan suppliers; the best Westcountry cheeses, incredible artisan breads, pastries and pies! There is also a fantastic play area and animal corner, where you can meet some of the Darts Farm animals.

8. Heavitree Park
Whether you're looking for sunshine or shade, Heavitree Park has plenty of picnic-perfect spaces. Bring strawberries and something refreshing for a Wimbledon-inspired afternoon while watching a game of tennis, or enjoy lunch beside the popular play area and paddling pools.

9. Haldon Forest Park
Escape into nature with a woodland picnic at Haldon Forest Park. Follow scenic walking trails to secluded picnic benches or open viewpoints overlooking Exeter and the Exe Estuary. It's an ideal spot for families, with play areas and activity trails to enjoy after lunch.

10. Greendale
Award-winning Greendale Farm Shop is also a must-visit destination for a picnic! The shop itself is a treasure trove of fresh, locally-sourced produce, and there is plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy your wares. Afterwards follow the free family trail to meet the animals.
11. Canonteign Falls
If you haven't visited before, Canonteign Falls is a stunning natural attraction in the heart of Devon. Here you can enjoy peaceful walks among the waterfalls and lakes plus family fun in the gardens and playgrounds. There are heaps of picnic-worthy spots to choose from!
12. Pinces Gardens
This hidden gem is located in St Thomas, standing on the site of William Lucombe's nursery founded in 1720. Pinces Garden is definitely a site for sore eyes – it may be the home to Pinces Gardens Bowling Club and the Pinces Gardens Croquet Club but it’s open for the public to enjoy!

13. Powderham Castle
Picnics don't come with a better backdrop than Powderham Castle. Explore the magnificent grounds before finding the perfect spot beneath ancient trees or overlooking the Exe Estuary. Keep an eye out for the resident deer as you enjoy one of Devon's most scenic picnic locations.
