Outdoor Activities

Exeter's position on the River Exe and being surrounded by stunning countryside means there are plenty of outdoor activities to choose from. Enjoy the city's many parks and gardens, hire a bicycle or canoe from Saddles and Paddles and cycle along the canal towpath, or paddle a canoe downstream to one of the two popular pubs situated beside the water - the Double Locks and The Turf. Cycle hire is also available from Topsham, at Darts Farm and Route 2.

Cycling is a great way to get around Exeter and there are many routes around the city which give cyclists the opportunity to visit parks, the Quayside, historic buildings and other attractions. 

Exeter's compact size makes it perfect for walking, and there is plenty to discover along the way. The Exeter Green Circle is a twelve mile circular walking route around the city outskirts, taking in green countryside valley parks and quiet leafy suburbs. The Exeter Green Circle consists of five seprate walks which join together so you can choose your distance. 

Fishing on the Exeter Canal is a relaxing pastime - for the best selection of Coarse, Game and Pike fishing equipment head to the Exeter Angling Centre. For more active watersports, visit AS Watersports on Exeter Quayside, and you can even enjoy winter sports all year round in Exeter, at the Exeter Dry Ski Slope! You could even jump on a relaxing Stuart Line cruise which runs along the calm-assured waters of the River Exe.
