A Considerate Society event produced by Art Work Exeter
Join artists Stephen Hodge and Matt Fletcher and Cultural Knowledge Exchange member Gosia Zajc for an experimental cabaret salon event that considers the relationship between international shippage and linguistic slippage. Drawing inspiration from Zurich Dada's Cabaret Voltaire and Krakow's Zielony Balonik (Green Balloon), members of the Exeter community have been invited to plunder, break apart, reconfigure and perform texts relating to the Custom House and Exeter's historic trade to make their own performance moments. Expect short, experimental performances by the Exeter community, music, refreshments, lively chat and the chance to join in yourself.
Taking inspiration from local and international Salon culture of the past and present, The Considerate Society [https://artworkexeter.org.uk/projects/the-considerate-society/] will convene 6 artist and community-led gatherings over the weekend of 26th-28th June. Each event has been carefully designed to consider some of the pressing themes and questions that have arisen during Art Work Exeters time as cultural partners atExeter Custom House [https://artworkexeter.org.uk/custom-house-residency/]. This exciting weekend takeover invites local people from all walks of life to come together through good hospitality and cultural celebration, to consider some of the things that really matter to us.
Each salon is offered with a Pay What You Can/ Donation admission, ensuring they are accessible while offering you the opportunity to directly support the artists and production company, which is not-for-profit.
There will be event-appropriate snacks and drinks available to purchase before and during the performance.
