To make the occasion even more special, a film reel showcasing Chriss work will play on a continuous loop in our Community Link Room, and all copies purchased on the day will be beautifully gift-wrapped free of chargeperfect for a truly memorable Christmas present.
Chris Chapmans inspirational photographs, taken over a period of fifty years, give us a unique insight into the realities of everyday life on Dartmoor and landscapes further afield. In this new selection of over 230 images from his personal archive, most of which have never been published before, his unrivalled eye captures the very essence of country life and portrays the sense of belonging that runs through the heart of rural communities.
The photographs are accompanied by his personal reflections on universal themes such as childhood, conversations, farming and the countryside. His pictures and words reflect the time-deep beauty of the world around us and highlight the profound social and environmental change that even places such as Dartmoor, often thought of as timeless landscapes, are undergoing.
As David Hurn of Magnum Photos writes: I suppose I am biased. Chris Chapman has been a friend since the mid-seventies when he was a student. It was evident from the start that he oozed commitment. He had a passion for the environment. He developed into one of the very best accurate, honest, loving and tender of photographers.
Hallowed Earth is a beautifully produced hardback edition of 304 pages, featuring 239 stunning photographs, priced at 60. Complete with a foreword by Jem Southam and an afterword by Chris Chapman, it is both a collectors treasure and an unforgettable giftespecially when signed and elegantly gift-wrapped by us at The Bookery.
