Join ourhands-on STEM family workshop
Learn the basics of electrical circuits by exploring and repairing battery-powered toys
Age range:811 years
All children must be accompanied by an adult. Due to space, max one adult per child please.
In this hour-long session your child will:
* Learn the basics of simple electrical circuits.
* Understand the difference between battery-powered and mains-powered (plug-in) toys.
* Learn about different types of batteries, including disposable and rechargeable batteries.
* Safely investigate how battery-powered toys work.
* Use simple tools to take apart toys and identify components.
* The workshop will focus only on battery-operated toys. Plug-in electrical items will not be worked on.
This workshop is led byProper Job [https://www.proper-job.org/], a local environmental charity focusing on waste reduction.
Children can bring a battery-operated toy of their own to repair; or they can choose from a selection provided by Proper Job - e.g. remote-control cars, teddies with voice boxes, battery-operated music speakers, lightsabers, light-up toys or light and sound toys.
