"The Ad Hoc Singers are a local acapella group of eleven singers (2 first sopranos,2 second sopranos, 2 altos, 2 tenors and 3 basses). Each of us has a different taste and favourite genre of music and so the songs that the group sing reflects that - anything from early and modern Church music and madrigals, arrangements of folksongs and spirituals to popular songs of the past and more recent, too.
We try to plan our concerts to suit most tastes , so people will enjoy at least some of what we sing!
The group has been in existence since the late 1970s when there were only 4 members. The line uo has expanded to allow more flexibility in our choice of music. Most of us are on the wrong side of 50 but we have 3 younger members now!
If performing without other groups , we sometimes introduce the spoken word to our concerts, partly to give us a break but also to give variety of sound to the audience.
