Writing Aloud with Malaika Kegode

About

Writing Aloud with Malaika Kegode
For young writers aged 16 - 19

Exclusively for EXTEND Creative Writing students of Exeter College, this is intended as a follow up to your in-college session with Malaika, a chance to write more outside of the college environment, explore and share your work together.

A holistic journey into writing words that deserve to be heard.

Maybe you have poems, stories, characters or lyrics in your head, but struggle to get them out into the world.

Maybe revision and exams have taken the fun out of writing, and you want to rediscover it.

Maybe you want to explore more about how you'd like to engage with writing outside of education.

If any of this sounds familiar, join poet, performer and playwrightMalaika Kegode for this session developed by Literature Works & Quay Words for writers aged 16 19 at Custom House Exeter.

Drawing inspiration from Spoken Word as a starting point, writers will learn tips and techniques to unlock their creativity and honour their artistic selves.

There will be hot drinks and snack available at the session.

PLEASE NOTE: We require contact details for a parent or guardian for anyone attending who is under the age of 18. Please fill in the questionnaire when you go to book your place.

About Malaika
Malaika Kegode is an award-winning writer, performer, and creative producer based in Bristol. Her work is focused on uplifting and celebrating the voiceless, overlooked and misunderstood. Malaika has been creating radio content since 2022, including the recent drama Tribe of Two (produced by Afonica for BBC Radio 4). Malaikas work has been featured on a variety of stages, including Southbank Centre, Lyric Hammersmith, University of Austria and The Scottish Storytelling Centre.

In addition to her writing, Malaika works as a mentor, dramaturg and editor. Malaika is a vocal advocate for creativity as a tool for healing, connection and collaboration. She is dedicated to helping people to tell their stories and find healing through the creative process through teaching workshops, mentoring individuals and producing accessible events. Malaika is a proud Trustee for mental health & arts charity Many Minds.
