Guest blog: Getting to Isca House and Chute House

Getting to Exeter by road

Exeter is really well linked by road, as it lies just off the M5. There is also a network of well-maintained A roads to get you to your destination. If you’re heading to Exeter from up-country, it’s as simple as coming off the M5 just past Exeter Services and taking the short hop down Honiton towards the city centre. Be warned though – like any city, Exeter can get busy during peak times, so if you are planning to hit Exeter at rush hour then build in some extra time so that you don’t make yourself late.

Taking the train to Exeter

Trains run from London Paddington to Exeter St David’s every hour, and sometimes even every half hour depending on when you travel. It’s a 2-hour journey which takes you through some of the most beautiful countryside. (If you continue further on to Newton Abbot you’ll head along the famous coastal railway, taking in Exmouth, Dawlish, and Teignmouth along the way. It is truly a sight to behold and an experience that is not to be missed.) Exeter has two train stations – the main one is Exeter St Davids, and then there is the slightly smaller Exeter Central, meaning that no matter where you come from or where you want to go you’ll have plenty of opportunity to travel by train.

Flying to Exeter

Exeter is very lucky to have its very own airport nearby. Again, it’s just off the M5 and easy to access by road, and there are plenty of taxi companies and public transport options when it comes to getting to the airport. Exeter Airport is growing, and adding more flight options and travel providers regularly. Servicing both domestic and international flights, Exeter airport is one of the main reasons why Exeter is so popular with visitors looking to spend some time in the south west and business people who want to quickly and easily access meetings with no hassle.

Whilst you're here

Exeter is incredibly well-serviced with public transport, too, and the bus network is a brilliant way to get around the city once you’ve arrived. With a new bus station having recently opened in the city, you’ll have plenty of chance to access the more rural and far-flung attractions that Devon has to offer. When it comes to accommodation in Exeter, there’s plenty of choice, but book early to avoid disappointment.
